General InformationPublic Act 368, 1978, Section 2433 states in part: "..a local health department shall continually and diligently endeavor to prevent disease, prolong life, and promote public health through organized programs, including prevention and control of environmental health hazards..." The Environmental Health Division, as a member of public health, adopts a philosophy of disease prevention. Prevention is secured by attempting to control those environmental factors having an effect on human health. Controls are provided through education, intervention, planning, and enforcement. Goals of the DivisionTo maintain the environmental philosophy, the Environmental Health Division adopts the following broad-based goals:
The Environmental Health Staff provides services directly through contact on an individual basis or indirectly through governmental or industry contact Staff provides consultation, education, regulatory, and enforcement services involving such programs as: Food protection, water supplies, sewage disposal, land usage, solid waste disposal, recreation facilities, hazardous waste disposal, air pollution, child care, rodent control and emergency preparedness. In all, staff may be involved in approximately 35 regulation or standard Environmental Health Programs.
