FREE Gas Card for Women Age 40 to 64! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, schedule your appointment today. Cancer stats for Michigan and the Thumb area are overwhelming. According to Michigan Cancer Consortium, in 2009 it is estimated 6,480 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in Michigan. Deaths in Michigan from breast cancer will likely total 1,350. Among our 50 states, Michigan ranks 15th highest in number of deaths. There is hope - FREE help is available for women. The Huron County Health Department is the coordinating agency for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program in the thumb area, consisting of Huron, Sanilac, Tuscola, St. Clair, Bay and Saginaw counties. Through this program women receive a pelvic, breast exam, mammogram and a pap test. Assistance will be available if there is an area of concern or tests are abnormal. Do not delay your annual physical exam for any reason. It is not worth the risk of late detection. According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 3 women will develop some type of cancer, while 1 in 8 will develop breast cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, within the thumb area counties in 2009, approximately 441 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 92 will die from it. Breast cancer is 97% treatable when found at an early stage. Call today and possibly save a life!
